Starting A Program in Your Area

Key elements to starting a program include:

• A strong long-term commitment. Garden Partners programs are planned, garden-related activities that occur during each month of the year. Therefore, a strong long-term commitment is required.
• A focus on enhancing quality of life. Garden Partners activities are ongoing, people elect to participate, and the focus is enhanced quality of life. Garden Partners programs do not offer therapy or treatment, as these assume a beginning, middle, and end to the participant’s experience.
• Partnerships and a plan. Successful programs require numerous partnerships and a clear plan for sustainability.

Technical Assistance and Satellite Programs

Garden Partners offers both Technical Assistance and Satellite Program options in facilities and communities where adequate funding and collaborations have been formed.

Technical Assistance. Starting in August 2006, Garden Partners will be available to assess, design, and/or develop your gardening program. Consultations are available at an hourly rate.

Satellite Programs. In 2007, Garden Partners will initiate the process for starting a Satellite Program outside of the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area. Garden Partners will play a role in the design, development, administration, and ongoing activities of such programs. Those wanting to start a Garden Partners Satellite Program will be responsible for securing start-up funding.
