Neah joined Garden Partners in July of 2009. She provides leadership for the organization, interfacing with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, community members, partners, donors, and the general public. Before coming to Garden Partners she was a business owner for eight years followed by private consulting where she specialized in small business development. She enjoys providing nurturing activities in her urban garden for herself and her family, and looks forward to the opportunity to increase the availability of therapeutic horticulture throughout the Portland community... and beyond.
Karen joined the Garden Partners team in February 2009. Her love of plants, the outdoors, and teaching have been themes throughout her life. She graduated with a B.S. in Horticulture from OSU and started teaching as a Botanist at Camp Hancock for the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. There she led activities that nurtured bonds between plants and students. This connection continues to be a strong focus. As the creator of a home-based landscape business, Karen is actively helping people bring nature closer to home. She enjoys writing poetry as an expression of her passion for the natural world. Karen's goal as a Program Specialist for Garden Partners is to enliven the spirit of older adults and community members through the study, care and taste (!) of plants.
Patty became a staff member in January 2008 to be available as a substitute for the other activity program specialists. With her background in elementary education, a Master's degree in counseling psychology, and her training in horticultural therapy, Patty is enjoying using all of her past experiences in her current involvement with Garden Partners. As a Metro naturalist and Master Gardener, she is committed to bringing the values of nature and gardening into her work with all ages.
Candice currently wears two hats at Garden Partners -- Subscription Manager and Program Specialist at Morrison Youth Garden. She brings her background in the arts and art education, and has experience in public library program development, sustainable agriculture, and curriculum design. In Portland, Candice has completed the Organic Garden Certification Program (OSU Extension), the School Gardens Coordinator Training (Growing Gardens), and is currently pursuing a certificate in Permaculture Design. Candice discovered the intersection of the arts and gardening while working on the P.E.A.S. Farm in Missoula, Montana, and has continued to explore this overlap for over ten years. Candice taught and grew vegetables in Missoula, MT, Brooklyn, NY and Providence, RI before landing in Portland. She believes in the healing power of creative exploration, and loves facilitating garden-based programming for youth.
